Mission
BHD's mission is to provide a safe and healthy environment for residents and visitors of Belmont.
Services
BHD provides disease prevention and health promotion services. This includes, but is not limited to all inspectional services for:
- Food Services
- Swimming Pools
- Day Camps
- Tobacco Sales & Smoke-Free Workplace Laws
- Subsurface Sewerage Systems, Sanitary Housing, & Dumpsters
- Mercury Recovery Program
- Rechargeable Battery Collection
- Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention
- Body Art
- Biotechnology & Emergency Preparedness
- Communicable Disease Follow Up & West Nile Virus monitoring.
Staff
BHD consists of a full-time Director, Assistant Director, Public Health Agent, Animal Control Officer, and Public Health Program Assistant. Part-time staff include the Senior Regional Public Health Specialist and Public Health Nurse. The Department is overseen by a three-member elected Board.

This is a free program for Belmont residents.
Please bring your used needles in a sharps-approved container to the Health Department. We have containers available if you don't have one. Call the Health Department at 617-993-2720 if you have any questions.
- How can I report a barking dog complaint?

Call 617-993-2720 to report a dog that is kept outside and that is barking for more than 30 minutes at a time.
