Dear Town Meeting Members:
Many of you are already aware that Belmont is currently engaged in drafting a Comprehensive Plan that will ultimately come before Town Meeting for review and approval. This is a necessary step prior to a possible rewrite of Belmont’s entire Zoning Bylaw, which does not currently conform to industry standards or best practices. (This in turn stifles beneficial development and the expansion of the Town’s property tax base.)
The Comprehensive Plan Advisory Committee is currently seeking Engagement Envoys, who “are citizens tasked with getting residents and other stakeholders connected to the project from all corners and communities of the town.”

Town Meeting Members are uniquely qualified to act as Engagement Envoys, and we would like to invite you to volunteer as mission-critical members of the Comprehensive Plan project. If you are interested in serving in this role, please contact Director of Planning and Building Christopher Ryan at Belmont2050Plan@belmont-ma.gov or call 617-933-2658.
Three other items of note:
- On May 29, 2025, 7:00PM the Comprehensive Plan Advisory Committee and the Select Board will hold a joint public hearing at the Beech Street Center, where the project consultants will share the results of their work so far. Please save the date and plan to attend either in-person or remotely, as this an important opportunity both to learn and provide important feedback.
- The Comprehensive Plan town-wide survey is now live. You can access it here (and please share this link with all your email distribution lists). https://arcg.is/H50eH0
- Residents and Town Meeting Members can sign up to receive updates on the project. Any updates will be visible on the project page.
