Dear Town Meeting Members:
This spring Town Meeting will have the opportunity to vote on a zoning overlay district for Belmont Center that may ultimately provide a significant boost to Town revenues. Town leadership cannot guarantee private investment, but we absolutely can establish favorable conditions that will invite commercial property developers to choose Belmont.
This type of zoning change requires a 2/3 vote of Town Meeting, which means we need to build widespread consensus that business-friendly rezoning is in Belmont’s best interest. We need you to be fully engaged in the planning process. With that in mind, I encourage you to attend (or watch recordings after the fact) of two very important meetings:

Before Town Meeting votes, there will be many more opportunities for you to participate this process. However, Belmont Center planning has been ongoing since January (and since 2008 before that…), so the window for your active participation is narrowing. The sooner you become engaged, the more impact you will have on this project.
